Masataka Taketsuru founded Nikka’s second distillery in 1969 – Miyagikyo distillery. He chose this site in the mountains of Sendai to contrast with his first distillery, Yoichi, located in the coastal area. Using less peaty malt and distilled in a pot still heated by indirect steam, This soft and luxuriantly fragrant single malt has an elegant fruitiness and a distinctive aroma with a strong Sherry cask influence.
Awards: ISC Silver, scored 92 points out of 100 by famed whisky writer, Jim Murray
Tasting Notes: Spice and nuts give way to emerging florality. A palate of honey, sherry wood and nutmeg. Soft and smooth. Fruity, full and lingering, superbly balanced finishing.
